Heal Leina's Heart With Life Saving Heart Surgery
Donation protected
My mom Leina has recently been diagnosed with a heart condition called severe aortic valve regurgitation as well as quadricuspid, which is rare. This means that she has a leaking valve in her heart that sucks back in the blood rather than pump it out. Quadicuspid means that she has four leaflets in her aortic valve rather than the normal three. She was advised that there are only a little more than 200 quadricuspid cases worldwide and her cardiologist and surgeon have not seen this outside of medical school. She was told she is not projected to make it past the end of the year without this life-saving surgery.
The surgery is scheduled for 4/27/2023 and last week she completed her 2 required pre-surgery procedures. These were already tough for her as she is struggling with exhaustion, chest pain, and shortness of breath. These symptoms have been happening for a little over a year and we were lucky to catch the issue when we did.
After surgery, she will spend a week in the hospital and will require a minimum of 3 months of home recovery.
Help give my mom a second chance at life. She is only 44 years old and has many goals that she still wants to achieve.
She has always been such a positive, giving, and hard-working woman who goes out of her way to be kind to everyone. She is an amazing and loving mother and my Girl Scout troop leader, where she volunteered for most of my childhood. Not only does she want to continue to see her children succeed, but she also wants to see her future grandchildren.
She also has just been accepted to San Diego State University to attend in the fall, which will have to be temporarily extended, but she is grateful for the opportunity. She wants to achieve her Bachelor's Degree and eventually her Doctorate as a trauma therapist. She wishes to continue to help children and adults in her practice someday.
We anticipate high out-of-pocket medical expenses. She will be on short-term disability, which is a loss of 30% of her income. Assistance is needed with not only medical bills and medications but also lost wages, living expenses, and recovery costs. We will be posting updates as things progress. Any help given is extremely appreciated and our family is grateful for your support.
Leina has touched the hearts of so many on her journey and now together we can help heal hers.
Thank you for listening and maybe you know somebody who knows somebody you could share this with.
