A Senior's Final Year Challenge

It's senior year—a year of reflection, anticipation, and expectation of what's to come. This last year in high school had some wonderful memories, but it's also been filled with unexpected setbacks—both emotional and financial.

At the end of January, while playing on my school’s basketball team, I tore my ACL. It was the kind of injury that no senior would have wanted their last year. The reality of it has not been pleasant, but I have had to learn to keep going, even when the path is different than I expected. Now, as I make plans for a costly surgery and recovery process, the financial aspect has become overwhelming.

At the same time, I’m also preparing for college. Between medical expenses and the rising cost of college, we’ve come to realize that scholarships, though incredibly helpful, won’t be enough. Rather than relying solely on student loans and taking on long-term debt, I’m turning to the support of my community.

Your help—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing my story—would mean the world to me and my family. I’ll be the first in my family to attend college, and that alone is a huge honor and responsibility. Your generosity won’t just help me—it will help my entire family, who have stood by me through everything.

I plan to study Communications and Multimedia Journalism and use it in the missions field. Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to other cultures and the idea of sharing stories that inspire and bring hope. As I committed my life to Christ, I saw an even greater calling to share His gospel message with others everywhere. That's how I was led to Journalism on the mission field—telling stories, forming relationships, and living on mission for Christ.

Es mi último año de secundaria, un año de reflexión, anticipación y expectativas sobre lo que está por venir. Este último año en la preparatoria me trajo recuerdos maravillosos, pero también estuvo lleno de contratiempos inesperados, tanto emocionales como económicos.

A finales de enero, mientras jugaba en el equipo de baloncesto de mi escuela, me rompí el ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA). Fue el tipo de lesión que ningún estudiante de último año hubiera deseado tener en su último año. La realidad no ha sido agradable, pero he tenido que aprender a seguir adelante, incluso cuando el camino es diferente al que esperaba. Ahora, mientras hago planes para una costosa cirugía y el proceso de recuperación, el aspecto económico se ha vuelto abrumador.

Al mismo tiempo, me estoy preparando para la universidad. Entre los gastos médicos y el aumento del precio de la universidad, nos hemos dado cuenta de que las becas, aunque increíblemente útiles, no serán suficientes. En lugar de depender únicamente de préstamos estudiantiles y endeudarme a largo plazo, estoy recurriendo al apoyo de mi comunidad.

Su ayuda, ya sea una donación o simplemente compartiendo mi historia, significaría muchísimo para mí y mi familia. Seré la primera de mi familia en ir a la universidad, y eso por sí solo es un gran honor y una gran responsabilidad. Planeo estudiar Comunicación y Periodismo Multimedia y aplicarlo en el campo misionero. Desde joven, me han atraído otras culturas y la idea de compartir historias que inspiren y den esperanza. Al entregar mi vida a Cristo, vi un llamado aún mayor a compartir su mensaje del evangelio con otros en todas partes. Así fue como me dirigí al periodismo en el campo misionero: contando historias, forjando relaciones y viviendo la misión de Cristo.
