My name is Helena and I live outside of Stockholm in Sweden. A few weeks ago an injured lost pet dove ended up on my doorstep. She was found in a ditch two weeks ago, malnourished and hurt from an altercation most likely with a hawk.

She was delivered home to me in a pastry box and she has since been cared for with bird feed, water, tender words and comfy rest while I reached out to organizations and facebook groups to find her owner. Meanwhile, we started calling her Ulla.

I was informed by bird experts that Ulla had been bred and raised as a pedigree pet dove. However, somehow and for some reason, she had been let out to fend for herself in the wilderness of suburbia.

After outreaches in different forums in search for Ulla’s owner with no luck, I have now decided to make my home a new home for Ulla. Ever since, she is my new sweet companion as she seems to actively listen when I talk to her about my day.

Every night at 8 pm she hops up on a pillow next to my bed to indicate that it’s time for bed. She sleeps next to me all night until 7 am on the dot when she hops down for her birdie breakfast.

Ulla hops around because she can’t fly after her injury. She has a confirmed wing fracture and she will need the right medical attention and treatment by a veterinarian as soon as possible. When these procedures are done, her prospects of living a long and happy life is very good.

Due to my recent longtime sick leave, I am right now having limited margins to finance the necessary procedures that Ulla now needs.

She will need a thorough examination, some x-rays, special bandaging and some medication.

The estimated veterinary cost amounts to a total of 6 165 SEK which equals about $654 or 557€. Friends…to us every little penny is preciously welcomed.

And if there would be any amount of surplus donations, every penny will in turn be donated to Smådjurschansen which is an organization that saves small animals and find them new homes. https://www.smadjurschansen.se
