Our grandmother, Beatrice Johnson, was the heart of our family. She lived through many hardships, raising five children while enduring loss and trauma, but she always found ways to bring comfort to those around her. Beatrice was known for her warm hugs, her ever-present dish of mints, and the peaceful hours she spent on her front porch swing. She was the only grandmother I ever had, and her presence shaped our lives in countless ways.

Right now, Beatrice rests at Hope Cemetery in Salem, Ohio. Sadly, there is nothing marking her grave—no sign to let visitors know she is there. Unless you were present when she was laid to rest, you would walk right past her without realizing it. This weighs heavily on our family, as we want to ensure that her memory is honored and her resting place is never forgotten. Without a headstone, future generations may never know where she lies, and we risk losing a vital connection to our family’s history.

I am organizing this fundraiser to provide a simple, respectful gray headstone for Beatrice. The funds will go directly toward the cost of the headstone and its placement. Having this marker will give our family, and those who come after us, a place to visit, reflect, and remember the woman who meant so much to us.
