Hey, I’m Joshua Houridis a student at UWC Atlantic
I’m shaving my head this year for Mission Australia. As a charity it supports people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, mental health issues across Australia.
I chose Mission Australia because they work directly with people affected by everything; young people, families, and individuals. helping them access the support and stability needed to rebuild their lives.
The global cost-of-living crisis has resulted in housing and food becoming more expensive, more unstable, and more out of reach for millions of people. Homelessness isn’t isolated to one country it pervades all walks of life.
The money raised will go directly toward housing support, mental health services, beds and meals. By shaving my head I’ll highlight an issue ridden with stigma.
Because the reality is any person you see sleeping on the street is a mother, father, son or daughter and they deserve to be treated and looked at with the dignity you would afford any human being.
There are also those who stay in unsafe homes out of fear, were the alternative to a house of abuse means sleeping on the streets.
When walking in the city, homelessness needs to be seen as people to be helped, not an issue to be ignored.
Anything donated makes a world of difference, thank you so much
