Head shave for happy and healthy chickens

This is Ms Archie Hen who arrived at the sanctuary with health issues.

This is Ms Archie Hen rehabilitated and looking forward to her new enclosure.

This is our cheeky turkey, Clyde who can’t wait to have more space to show off his beautiful feathers.

Cockadoodledo to you from Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary! I am shaving my head to raise funds for an enclosure for special needs chickens who have retired from years of hard work laying eggs.

Some may remember the story of Ms Archie Hen who joined the Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary family a few months ago. Along with several of her sisters, she was not in good health, had a respiratory infection, peritonitis and had lost the majority of her feathers. Wonderful people donated a knitted jersey to her which she wore proudly to keep warm. Then there was Ms Blue Hen who was crippled by reproductive problems and could no longer stand up. Her long rehabilitation has been successful and and not only can she stand, but she can walk and even run when watermelon is on offer!
As time has healed the many health issues these sweet little hens arrived with, they are now well enough to start their new lives living outside and basking in the sun, socialising, scratching for surprises, enjoying dust baths and doing chicken business.
My head shave is dedicated to providing funds to the sanctuary so that a fox-proof enclosure can be built which will allow these special hens to roam safely in an open area, and roost safely in a specially designed hen house at night. The sanctuary’s resident Turkey, Clyde, will also be joining the special needs flock having lived with hens for many years. He will be able to live his best life once this enclosure is built as it will be so much bigger than his current accommodation.
These sweet birds are very dear to us all and we want them to enjoy new experiences and live happy and healthy lives.
Thank you for all your support, it is incredibly appreciated and it means so much to the sanctuary and of course the beautiful animals you will be helping.
I will be shaving my head on the 18th January 2022, feel free to donate from now until that date, big or small, anything is appreciated.
