He Was ALWAYS There! Saying Goodbye to my Uncle
Donation protected
My family is raising funds to cover the final expenses of our loving uncle, brother, friend, son, husband, Reginald 'Reggie" Pierce. While this story may sound like many others you've heard, its like no other!
My uncle was born and raised in Chicago. He found his niche in sales and traveled far and near to make a living.
My uncle Reggie didn't have kids of his own, but he lovingly adopted his nieces and nephews. With a loving and giving heart, he'd shower us with his visits, long conversations, outings, and gifts.
HE WAS ALWAYS THERE! No matter the distance nor the status of this wallet, HE WAS ALWAYS THERE! He made every birthday party, graduation, wedding, funeral!
My cousins and I love to laugh about the time he took us all to the drive-in movie and hid the four of us under a blanket until we passed through admissions. He was so much fun and there are countless memories of laughter.
He was my grandma's youngest son, and was living in her home for many years that I was growing up. My cousins and I would sneak down near his room in the basement and listen to him play the horn until he'd jokingly chase us away- all four of us scattering in laughter.
Uncle Reggie was quite the handsome Bachelor until he met Debby. He and Debby truly enjoyed the married life. Together they were peanut butter and jelly, they were better together!
My uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer seven years ago. As a family, we were truly devastated, we couldn't imagine a life, a Thanksgiving, a Christmas without him. There is an accredited cancer institution, here in the Chicagoland area that denied him service, they reported how there was nothing that they could do.
But NEVER underestimate the power of LOVE! His wife Debby became a medical apprentice. She read several books on cancer and found a physician who specialized in cases that are medically impossible. Together, the physician, Auntie Debby and Uncle Reggie began an integrative treatment program. Even when doctors suggested we put Uncle Reggie in hospice, this new treatment was miracle producing. My Uncle Reggie SURVIVED!!! We watched as he went from feeble and emaciated to strong and energetic! We had our loving uncle, brother, friend, son, husband BACK. He even walked me down the aisle when I married in 2017.
Watching the news, seeing how COVID is devastating our country, our communities, our families, it's hard to watch and I refused to watch the news for several months to protect my mindset. Even hearing from colleagues and friends impacted by COVID, it was always 'someone else'. I would send a prayer and return to my life.
There is increasing evidence that minority groups are being disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
On Sunday, November 8th, COVID-19 took the life of my beloved Uncle Reggie. We were all set to virtually celebrate his big sister's birthday but instead we gathered across the street from the hospital to wait, waiting to hear that his slight fever and upset tummy wasn't a 'bug' but COVID-19 and that the Code Blue that summoned us all from a lazy warm Sunday morning had ended in us all feeling saddened, empty, and speechless.
Today, we ask that you share in our love for a man that was loving, caring and ALWAYS THERE for his family and friends.
To our loving uncle, brother, friend, son, husband, Reginald 'Reggie" Pierce.
God Bless Your Journey!
