My name is Brittany Newland, and I’m from Columbus, Indiana. I’m a single mother of two young girls, raising funds to afford legal representation in an ongoing custody and protection battle against my ex-fiancé. I’m the direct party impacted, and this campaign is solely for attorney retainer fees, court costs, and legal expenses to protect my children and ensure their safety and stability.

Our Story

Not long ago, I ended an 8-year relationship with my now ex-fiancé, Dillon—a man who didn’t love us the way a partner or father should. Behind closed doors, I endured emotional, physical, and financial abuse. I finally walked away—not with money or a home—but with my daughters, my instincts as a mother, and the determination to build a life centered on love and safety.

Since leaving, he’s made it his mission to punish me—not for love of our daughter, but out of control and spite. He’s taking back promises he once made, dragging me through lawsuit after lawsuit. I’ve been stalked, threatened, and harassed. What’s worse is that I’m the one being dragged through court repeatedly, just for choosing peace over chaos.

Why This Matters

When he was arrested, the state issued a no-contact order to protect both me and our daughter. Strangulation, one of the most dangerous forms of abuse, is part of what I survived—and statistics show it’s a major red flag for future violence.

He walks into court with confidence and a high-powered attorney, believing he can use money to silence and wear me down. But I refuse to be bullied into silence. I have the screenshots, videos, messages—years of evidence—but truth doesn’t always win in family court without legal support.

Legal battles are expensive. Between attorney retainer fees, filing motions, court hearings, and responding to repeated lawsuits, even basic custody cases in Indiana can easily exceed this amount. I don’t want revenge—I just want a fair chance to defend myself and protect my daughters from further trauma.

If the mother of a child is being torn apart, how can the child possibly thrive?

My daughters deserve peace, stability, and a childhood untouched by legal chaos and emotional harm. I never wanted it to come to this. I hoped for healing, for change, for accountability. But I can’t wait any longer for someone to become who they’ve already proven they’ll never be.

I delayed creating this fundraiser because I felt others needed help more than me. I never thought I would be in this position. But I’ve realized that asking for support doesn’t make me weak. It makes me a mother who will do anything to protect her children.
