See that old-timey photo from the 80's. The loudmouth on the left? Yep, that's me, Melissa. The cute fella on the right, that's my little brother Eric.
Why did I post this photo to introduce you to Eric? In my heart, even though a lot of big, grown-up stuff has happened in the last few years, I still see us this way.
After the devastating loss of both our parents in 2016, just 10 weeks apart. Eric went into a long depression. As he's said, losing Mom really took his will to live. But in 2020, after receiving the diagnosis of Diabetes Type II, enough was enough. He took a stand for his life, refocused on his health, eating right, and getting back in shape. He was doing really good and I was proud of him
June 2022, a few days after his 44th birthday, he went to the University of Alabama Birmingham for a biopsy. It was Cancer. Multiple scans and tests looked like it hadn't metastasized. Last August, he made it through an 8-hour+ major surgery. Lymph nodes were clear. No chemo. No radiation. He kept positive about healing and kept his thoughts focused on getting back to the gym!
Over the last 5 months, Eric has had multiple setbacks. He was diagnosed with Lymphedema in both legs. Has made multiple trips back and forth to University of Alabama Birmingham. Drains in. Drains out. Incapacitating swelling and pain. Infections. A 3-week stay due to Staph. Since he lives 3 hours away from UAB and was not capable of driving himself, this was no easy feat. These setbacks have put a huge strain on his life over the past 5 months. His savings are gone. He's not been able to work. He's sold most of his stuff.
At the moment, he battling an infection in his right leg and he's hoping he won't need to go back in for additional surgery and several weeks of recovery.

The kid needs a break! He's so close to getting back on his feet. He's so close! So, I created this fundraiser to help with additional medical expenses, travel, living expenses, and job training. But MOSTLY, I created this to give Eric hope and encouragement. To help him the best way I can... by opening my mouth and yelling out real loud!
I believe in miracles. I don't want him to give up five minutes before the miracle. There is hope. He has fought so hard. He has taken a stand for his life. Please help.
