My dad, the proud owner of Fleming Custom Upholstery 2 in Clintwood, VA, suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke followed by a heart attack. He was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center, where doctors discovered a severe brain bleed that shifted his brain 5mm off center.
After a short time in the ICU, his condition worsened when he was moved to a normal room too quickly, his brain shifted 10mm due to a spike in blood pressure, and he was rushed back to intensive care for emergency treatment.
He spent two weeks in the ICU and is now recovering in the stroke unit, still paralyzed on his right side.
He started communicating with hand squeezes. Now he can speak, but still struggles with memory — therapy is crucial to help him recover his abilities.
He has made incredible progress, but the road ahead is long and his insurance won’t cover any therapy- only $100/day for room and board. A true disappointment.
Rehab facilities are quoting $1,500 per day, and without proper therapy, he may never walk or regain full independence.
Our only other option is to bring him home and try to recreate therapy ourselves.
We’re trying to raise funds to help with:
• Inpatient rehab (2-3 weeks minimum)
If we can’t meet that goal, he needs:
• Home health care and therapy
• Wheelchair or power chair
• Hoyer lift and power recliner
• ADA ramp and home modifications
• Ongoing medical bills
My dad is one of the hardest-working, kindest people you’ll ever meet. He would never ask for help, but he’s always been there for everyone else — now it’s his turn.
I know I’m asking for a lot… but every little bit truly helps. If you can give, thank you. If you can’t but still want to help, we will need help building a ramp and making his home accessible. Please share this and keep him in your thoughts.
