Hello, my name is Scott, and I am trying to raise these funds for my cat, Ghost. Ghost has always been a pedestal to my family, from day one when we picked him up from the animal shelter. It sounds cringey, but Ghost was truly the cat that was meant to be for my family.
Something the shelter told us that always stuck with me is that Ghost hadn’t gone up to anyone prior to our family in the two weeks that he had been at the shelter. For some reason, he chose my wife, Angelina, after she laid next to him for a solid half hour. When we took him home, he immediately tailored a relationship with my other cat, Dom, who isn’t exactly the most friendly to other cats. After a couple of days, Dom and Ghost were laying together, with Ghost’s arm over Dom — kind of like his protector.
Throughout the past year and a half, Ghost has become a huge support to our kids, laying with them every night in their room, by one of my two sons’ heads, ensuring that they go to sleep, and then he would join me and my wife in our room — until just a couple of days ago when his condition worsened and he would not accept any food.
Upon seeing Ghost’s loss of appetite, we began force-feeding him via syringe — two parts Hill’s Pet Nutrition and one part water — with the intent to keep him alive while scrounging funds for a vet visit (me and my family live paycheck to paycheck). We luckily got a loan from my mother yesterday to get Ghost into urgent care, where they ran diagnostics (ultrasound, vitals, and liver panel/bloodwork).
Unfortunately, today, we received the liver panel results, which concluded that Ghost’s bilirubin levels were extremely high — approximately 11.4 — which leaves us with only a 10–20% chance of survival without hospitalization, feeding tubes, and IV fluids. We know that this is unlikely, as vets estimate that this will cost in the range of 5-10000, something me and my family unfortunately do not have due to our current financial situation of living paycheck to paycheck. However, we are hoping we can raise these chances through more aggressive home-based care.
We have continued syringe feeding and have set up this GoFundMe to get Ghost subQ fluids as well as anti-nausea medication and, hopefully — but unlikely — hospitalization. We have applied for multiple grants from Frankie’s Friends, the Brown Dog Foundation, and RedRover, to no avail due to Ghost’s prognosis.
We ask that anyone who can offer any help, whether it be a dollar or five — me, my kids, and my wife would be extremely grateful.
What your donations will help cover:
- Subcutaneous (subQ) fluids to keep Ghost hydrated and stable at home
- Anti-nausea medication so he can keep food down and avoid vomiting
- Syringe food and nutritional support to prevent liver deterioration
- Rechecks and follow-up diagnostics as needed to monitor progress
- Hospitalization, if funds allow, for IV fluids or feeding tube placement
Every bit helps us keep Ghost alive and fighting. Thank you so much for reading and caring.
