My name is Alyssa, and I am Mike’s stepdaughter. Who, I affectionately call Thanos! I am writing this on behalf of our entire family—my mom, my brother, and my 11-year-old bonus sister.

I was 14 years old when Mike came into my life.

I was scared and unsure — and he showed up anyway.

He loved my mom. He helped raise my brother and me as if we were his own. He’s always been there for us and his 11-year-old daughter. Mike didn’t just join our family — he became our foundation.

Then everything changed in a single morning. Mike went in for what was supposed to be a routine surgery. We expected him to be home the next morning. He walked into that hospital healthy and strong. He came out a quadriplegic with severe vocal cord damage.

He didn't come home the next morning. Instead, he spent the next 26 days fighting for his life in the ICU. Mike is now in a spinal rehabilitation facility, fighting every single day to adapt to a body that no longer works. Because he is struggling to even use his voice right now, I am using mine for him.

We want him home. But right now, our home in Texas isn’t ready for him. Mike spent years making sure we were safe and protected. Now, we are in a race to do the same for him. Anything donated will go directly toward making his return possible:

- Home modifications (widened doorways and wheelchair ramps, wheelchair accessible bathroom)

- Medical equipment insurance won’t cover

- Accessible transportation so he can get to his treatments
