Help Leif Hagman Grieve the Loss of Mandy Hagman

It is with deep sadness and shock that we announce that Mandy Hagman (Weis), Leif Hagman's wife, was killed in a bicycle accident on Thursday, November 17, 2022 while they were on a cycling vacation near Barcelona, Spain. The accident involved a collision with a large truck. She passed in a place she loved, doing what she loved, with the man she loved.

Mandy was an accomplished athlete and a generous mentor. She had flawless and eclectic music taste. Mandy was a talented but somewhat shy artist and those of us lucky enough to be on her homemade Christmas card list will cherish her creations forever (among her many other art forms).

Biking was Mandy’s biggest passion. With Leif as her favorite riding partner, she knew the intricacies of every road in Door County. Mandy trained harder as the years passed. She got so good at online (e-sport) racing that she was recruited to an international team of talented men and women, competing with athletes from around the world each week. If you had the privilege to ride with her, you could only do your best to hold her wheel & leave inspired by her incredible style on & off the bike.

Mandy and Leif were married in 2002. Few couples share a love for each that they did. They built a beautiful life together including many adventures in the United States and abroad. They shared a love of cortados and cooking delicious, nourishing food. They were each other’s best friend and true soulmates. Leif said it best when he said being married to Mandy “was the best ride of my life.”

Leif returned to Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday, November 22. He has a long road ahead of him. He will need financial assistance to allow him to prioritize his health and healing over the next months and years to come. Our goal is to alleviate his financial obligations over the next 3-6 months. Money will go towards legal fees, mental health services, and help Leif meet the financial obligations made by a household with two incomes.

Mandy’s sudden and traumatizing death is one that no one should experience. And yet the person who loved her most must bear that burden for the rest of his life.
