Dottie needs your help!

Story

Meet beautiful Dottie. Everyone who meets Dottie instantly falls in love. She smiles when you pet her, her tongue is always out of her mouth and she greets every single person like they are a long lost friend. Dottie has had a tremendously difficult life, but has survived the odds. She is a resilient and loveable pup, but her story is full of hardship. Dottie was once a homeless stray on the streets of the Bahamas before being taken in by Bahamas Humane Society, where she received medical care before being flown to Nova Scotia through South Paw Conservation Association on March 6th, 2021. Dottie overcame all the odds, surviving ehrlichia, babesia and anaplasmosis(all tick born illnesses). Dottie had not been in her new home for long when her mom and dad were dealt the heart breaking diagnosis of cancer. With the financial support of South Paw Conservation, amazing vet care and her mom and dad’s love, she received the medical care and support she needed to get through the horrible diagnosis. She endured 7 rounds of chemotherapy successfully and was deemed cured from this treatable cancer. While Dottie experienced good health for about six months, her health suddenly turned for the worse once again around Christmas time. Her family noticed blood in her urine again, and she had to make a trip to Prince Edward Island’s Atlantic Vet College. After an expensive few days of testing, the Atlantic Vet College found a mass growing in her abdomen. While the mass did not appear to be cancerous, it did require an expensive surgery to remove it. Dottie’s mom and dad would do anything to keep their girl healthy, but after a few years of reduced income due to COVID, it was hard to save to afford her surgery. Dottie was also going to be a big sister in August and her parents wanted her happy and healthy to meet her new human sibling. To help fund Dottie’s surgery, South Paw Conservation and Dottie’s parents are setting up a GoFundMe. Please consider donating to her cause and helping her get healthy and happy so Dottie’s family can continue seeing her beautiful face every day.
