I've helped to do this for a lot of people in the past but never for myself. This is difficult for me, to say the least.
Hi, I'm Theresa Estridge and I carry the BRCA2 gene mutation for developing cancer. On July 28th, 2025, I go in for a double mastectomy at Sanford in Bismarck, ND to do everything that I can to avoid the terrible fate of a cancer diagnosis. I'm trying, but I've been told to be prepared for exactly that, cancer.
Four weeks after the first surgery, I return to Sanford to have my fallopian tubes and ovaries removed as well. It's terrifying to me.
Statistically, I should've already developed cancer, but I've thwarted having it four times already. I have only a 5% chance of not already having it, but all tests show negative, so cross your fingers for me.
So here I am. Due to my health, I'm unable to work right now as pursuing medical treatment takes up all of my time. I'm actively trying to get better. It's a daily struggle.
That being said, I don't make money to cover the cost of gas back and forth from Bismarck for surgery or post-op, my phone bill, or my car insurance.
My needs are very basic. $600 will cover everything for not 2 months, but 4 months as my son's take care of all of the other bills but it leaves them strapped. They do it for me so that I can take the time that I need to heal and recover without stress but money only goes so far and there is only so much they càn do to help
Hopefully, I will fall into the 5% who never develop cancer but the doctors are saying to expect the diagnosis after the results get back from the lab due to having the gene mutation and my age. Time will tell. Stay tuned for updates!
Thank you for even taking the time to read my story, and may your days be blessed with good health.
