Mochi is the newest addition to our family. We adopted him from a rescue with his sister (Miso) and they’re best friends. Our children, Ava and Ethan, adore these kittens. Mochi is such an affectionate, cuddly love muffin and loves to play, but at only 2 months old, he started to have grand mal seizures. After multiple ER visits and months of diagnostic testing, the doctors confirmed after a CT scan that he has a congenital extra-hepatic porto-systemic liver shunt—which is an abnormal blood vessel that bypasses the liver instead of going through it, so the liver cannot clean the toxins out of his blood, and the toxins accumulate in his body and his brain. He is essentially being poisoned from within. However, this birth defect can be corrected with surgery. Without this life-saving surgery to correct the shunt, he will die, and it would be devastating to the children to lose him. We have spent several thousands of dollars on his medical care, treatment, and diagnostics, and now we are facing another estimated $10,000 in surgical and medical expenses for Mochi. We have diminished our savings to treat Mochi and keep him alive these past few months, and really need—and humbly ask for—our community’s support to help save Mochi’s life with this liver shunt surgery. Every donation helps, and we truly appreciate any contribution for Mochi’s surgery so he has the best possible chance at a normal, healthy life. With much gratitude,
Mochi, Miso, Ava, Ethan, Alex and Jillian
