Operation BRING DAVE HOME

Our loved one, Dave Hohensee (75 years young), of Burlington, WI, was injured in a motorcycle accident on June 5th, 2023. Dave was enjoying a bucket list ‘boys bike trip’ with his son Mark and good friend Tom. They were able to celebrate the successful ride of the ‘Tail of the Dragon’, with 318 curves in 11 miles. Later that day they went out to ride on the Cherohala Skyway, where he had a freak accident near a scenic turnout. The emergency team arrived within 30 mins, and immediately treated the situation as a spinal cord injury. The quick thinking of Mark, Tom, and the EMS team to ensure his utmost safety before taking him to the hospital was so critical. He was also wearing a helmet which we can confidently swear was lifesaving in this event. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, known for their cardiac, brain and spine treatment. He had immediate family who drove down to the UT Medical Center that night.

The outcome of this accident did result in a C5 spinal cord injury which in a worst-case situation can result in paralysis of both the upper and lower body. Dave did undergo a successful spinal surgery. His current state is not at the worst-case extent, however, his mobility in arms, specifically hands and supporting his weight in his legs, is very limited. He will endure extensive rehabilitation for recovery, and the outcome will be determined once he begins this long process.

We are asking for financial help that you may provide for this tragic and unforeseen event as the strain on Dave and Chris will be extensive. The first funds raised will assist with below, to BRING DAVE HOME.

· Uninsured medical transport to get Dave back to Wisconsin and directly into rehabilitation facility – location and date are still pending at this time, but hopeful he will be on the road by the end of this coming week.

· Longer term required in-home adaptations that may needed in advance to his return home.
