Andy Walker Needs New Wheels

Hi There!

Andy and Susan Walker are dear friends of mine, and I am asking for help with their present situation.

As many of you know, Andy has weathered major health issues over the years due to a lifetime of type 1 diabetes. Unfortunately, these health challenges have severely escalated over the last few years. First, a Parkinson's diagnosis, then a silent heart attack in 2021 that compromised his transplanted kidney and put him on dialysis. Last August, Andy suffered a major brain hemorrhage. He spent weeks in the hospital and months in a skilled nursing facility fighting to regain mental acuity and physical mobility.

Now home, he continues to work with physical therapy and home health assistance. Andy is mostly bed and wheelchair-bound. It has become necessary to install a wheelchair-access bathroom and to purchase a handicapped ramp van for transportation to dialysis and medical appointments.

It has been a financially difficult time with the expenses involved in Andy’s recovery and care, and it has become overwhelming for them. We cannot change Andy's health, but we hope to help Andy and Susan finance these necessities. Andy's healthcare professionals have recommended these items for his safety and to improve his quality of life.

Andy and Susan have served and invested in their community for 37 years. He is a true friend, a wonderful father, and the very best kind of man. His leadership and service to his family, The City of Fairfield, where he worked for 34 years, and his church congregation have been constant and remarkable. His gratitude, kindness, and optimism in the face of his recent hardships have left a lasting impression on all who have medically and physically cared for him.
