Support Madison's Recovery Journey

Hello, I am Madison's grandma, and I wanted to make this go fund me to help with daily expenses for my daughter and son in-law Savanna and Shawn Mahlum and there family.

Madison was involved in a car accident on June 29th, in Iowa and was airlifted to Sioux Falls trama unit at Sanford medical center. She is currently in ICU with a brain injury, and a broken foot that will need surgery as soon as she is stable enough, and hopefully wakes up from the medically induced coma. Their are still alot of unknowns on what the future will bring, Savanna and Shawn have been by her side since the accident and being out of work and having expenses while in South Dakota such as food and hotels anything will help. If unable to help, prayers are appreciated.

07/02/25 update- currently they are slowly trying to wake her. She has been very agitated during this process, and so they are looking into a med change to help with the agitation. Keep the prayers coming. We appreciate you all.

07/06/2025 - late yesterday they did some tests that showed bacteria and they started her on antibiotics right away.She has been less agitated and has been trying to talk, at this time it looks like her speech has been effected by the brain injury or possibly the breathing tubes. They are hoping to try and get her sitting in a chair sometime today if all goes well. Again, we want to thank you all for your support, it is helping alot while we are in South Dakota. We also want to thank those who reached out and sent money by venmo. You are all awesome!

7/7/25 -update, Madison has had a good day today! They removed her neck IV and she was able to finally able to try soft food, she managed to eat a little of her potatoes and 1/2 of a shake. If she continues to do well they are planning on surgery for Wednesday. All of your support has really helped while they are in Sioux Falls. Thank you for your generosity through the gofundme. I will update again tomorrow.

7/8/2025 update- not a good day today, she was very agitated and the doctors decided to add some anxiety meds to try. She is still scheduled for surgery tomorrow. Please continue to share, every prayer and donation helps. Thank you!

7/10/25 - update surgery on her foot went good yesterday, she ended up with a plate and screws. She is still having alot of agitation and needs to be sedated quite often in order to let her brain heal. At this time they are saying another couple of weeks here in Sioux Falls and then depending on rehabilitation needed will determine the next steps. Please keep sharing, everything donated has helped while being away from home. Thank you!

07/11/2025 update. Not alot of change today except she was more alert but still trying to escape out of bed. She has a nurse that has to sit with her at all times. She did eat a few bites of food and was able to talk to her other grandparents and her uncle kyle and aunt Erin on the phone. Please continue to pray for her and her family during this recovery as this will be a long journey for them. Please continue to share as expenses are adding up and any help is appreciated.

7/12/2025 update. Madison has had a pretty good day today, moved out of ICU and is now on the PT/neurology floor where they will continue to monitor and decide on the next step in her recovery process. She ate a little more today then yesterday and the agitation had stopped and she is not trying to escape anymore. Please continue to pray and share. We appreciate you all.

Update - Great news happened today, Madison was released from Sanford Medical Center and is at home recovering. We are so grateful for everyone sending prayers and helping with donations. It has been a hard couple of weeks that we don't want to ever relive. Thank you again from all of us!
