Hburg/Rockingham TNR Program
Donation protected
Dr. Maureen Ward, who owns Harrisonburg Animal Hospital, has started a heavily discounted TNR program in the Shenandoah Valley and we need your help! With the help of volunteers, Veterinarians donating their surgical skills and a few donated materials- we are able to spay/neuter/vaccinate/and flea/tick treat 100 cats a month! We work closely with local organizations that are rescuing and re-homing cats, and/or assisting local families with their personal cat populations. Each cat is sterilized, vaccinated for Feline Distemper, Leukemia and Rabies, receives an ear mite treatment if needed as well as a monthly flea/tick prevention. They also each receive a small ear crop to assure they are identified as a sterilized cat if returned to the outdoors. Our organization meets once a month and is entirely volunteer-based! We are able to treat between 75-100 cats per event, all dependent on the demand from the local organizations. Despite receiving some product donations (Elanco donates Feline Distemper/Leukemia vaccines, Zoetis donates injectable antibiotics and Revolution)- the cost to maintain this event is high. Additional costs include: Rabies vaccines, injectable anesthesia, electricity, surgical materials (gauze, suture, instruments, autoclaving materials), food and drink for volunteers, etc. Currently each organization only pays $15/cat, which allows them to put their funding towards other needs (food/litter/sick animals/adoption events). Please help us raise money to continue this event and possibly even lower the cost to these organizations! All proceeds will go towards materials, drugs, vaccines and food/beverages for volunteers. What these organizations do in our community is tremendous and beneficial. It not only helps keep these cats healthier, but cuts down on breeding rates and over-population. In the end, this reduces kill rates. Any donations help!!
