Hope To Fight Cancer

My beautiful mother, Angela Byers Merritt has been diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma and will begin surgery and treatment on Tuesday. What we thought was a routine appendicitis and visit to the ER turned out to be much more. There are two tumors so far and the biopsy confirmed the malignancy. The doctors are alarmed that she has lost over 30 pounds in a few months which causes concern of another cancer, stressed that the surgery must happen immediately. She has wonderful doctors and we are prayerful that they can remove the cancers in one surgery.
My mom and dad are in their early 40’s, both work full time, they never ask anyone for anything, always help people - and they each have health insurance. My mom had to take a leave of absence from work for at least eight weeks and there is no benefit to supplement them. A year ago my mom had a neck fusion due to a head injury and we have not completely paid for those expenses at this time. Now this has stressed our family past our limit. I am living with them to help take care of my mom but my son has microcephaly and special needs. I work full time, I contribute to the household and I have adjusted my schedule to take care of her after the surgery. My parents needed both paychecks to pay their rent and expenses- but the deductible, co-pays and basic expenses for this cancer are over $5000.
My parents have returned their second car, cancelled anything that is not a bare necessity and our focus is on our mom’s complete recovery. There are no frills or extras in our home-everything is being used for medical expenses. We have tried every agency without any help.
Everyday my mom is sick and in pain-and we are very overwhelmed with the weight of this situation. It saddens me that she has the added anxiety of being denied medical care without the copays and deductibles. We are fighting one battle at a time. First the cancer surgery.
We are trying to raise $5000 to cover the quoted amounts and pay for one month of basic living expenses during her recovery.
Thank you for taking the time to read this - and for your prayers. Please share this if you can so that we can reach our goal. God Bless.
