Help Lay Jesse To Rest

On March 12th, after several very anxious days of him missing, our family was finally notified by the Columbus Police that my father's body had been recovered. He was 56 years old. Still reeling from the loss of such an important member of our family, we are so incredibly frustrated as the investigation is ongoing and we still don't have any answers.
My father Jesse Bruton touched so many throughout his life. Through his music, through his knowledge he loved to share, and through his love for every human and animal he ever met. The past few years were very hard on him due to his chronic health issues that left him disabled. He went from a bright, outgoing singer in his band to a man who was forced to spend so many days in bed due to the pain his disintegrating spine caused him. But my father always did his best to stay positive and enjoy every second he was able to spend with his family.
Though he was forced into retirement with his disability, he took much joy in spending his days with my mother as she tended to their animals and garden. COVID was especially hard as his children and grandchildren were such a light in his life, and he was counting the seconds until we could all spend time together again as a family. His daily calls to family were a moment he looked forward to every day. I will forever miss hearing his bright voice as he picked up the phone.
His disability unfortunately caused constant issues in more ways than one. Healthcare is incredibly expensive here and it left our family's finances in a state of disarray. When he was forced out of work, he lost his life insurance. And as he was still so young, funeral expenses were not something anyone had been planning on for many years. Though the investigation is still ongoing, the coroner has notified us that we need to begin planning funeral arrangements. We are just at a loss for how to do so.
Even following my father's wishes to be cremated, estimates have reached the five figures. After meeting with a funeral director, he was able to reduce the price some and gave us an estimate of $8,000.
This is the end of my father's incredible life story. After so many long months of being unable to see each other due to the ongoing pandemic, it is so important for us to have a proper goodbye. Any amount donated will be appreciated for the rest of all of our lives. Please help us to honor and say goodbye to my father.
**Case & funeral updates will be posted below as we receive more information**
