Medical Expenses for James Green
Donation protected
I'm starting this page with the hopes that we can raise money to help pay for medical expenses for my mom and step dad, James Green, or Jim. in 2007, Jim was serving in the Navy and before leaving to go overseas, his doctors told him that he couldn't go because he had a blood clot in his leg. After determining he had pulmonary hypertension , 4 years later he suffered from a stroke because of a blood clot. Finally, after being in and out of the hospital and going through numerous tests because of new symptoms with his lungs and not being able to breathe, the doctors found that he has an auto-immune disorder called Scleroderma. On top of that they found out he also has Lupus. With the mix of all these, the treatments are extremely complicated. His lungs are inflamed and his immune system is mistakenly attacking the normal proteins in his blood, causing the clots. Blood thinners help but can end up causing more complications from the blood being too thin. He is on steroids to help with inflammation but makes it hard to release proteins, which can cause kidney failure. To take care of that, he has to get blood plasma exchanges to clean out his blood, which does help with the clotting. Presbyterian was great but said he is too complicated for them to try to treat so now he goes to UNMH, and the doctors tell my mom repeatedly that he is the most complicated case at that hospital. Within the last year and a half, the complications have gotten much worse and Jim has been in and out of the hospital at least 2-3 times per month. He is on oxygen too. In May 2015, the complications were so out of control, we thought we were going to lose him, twice, but he is a fighter and was able to go home after 2 weeks of being in the ICU. This time around, Jim has been in the ICU for 4 weeks and also suffered from another stroke. The stroke had quite the effect on him this time and instead of going home, he is going to need to go to a facility to provide full time care and the physical therapy he needs since he isn't able to move much of his body anymore.
Jim served as a Bernalillo County Firefighter for 9 years and was saving people's lives while dealing with his complications until he was forced to retire because he physically couldn't do it anymore. With the retirement, he also lost all benefits.
My mom is still working full time and has still been able to be by his side every single day. They recently moved into a smaller house and Jim only stayed one night before he was admitted into the hospital. She has had an incredible amount of emotional support from family and friends and we are very thankful for that. Because of all the medical bills starting to pile in and knowing the treatment plan needed to help Jim, they are asking for your help.
We all want our funny, loving, and sweet Jim to get better so please keep him in your prayers.
Let's help out this amazing, self-less husband and wife. Please donate and share! If you're not able to donate, please share!
