At the end of November, our friends Hazen and Ave went to the hospital with a final plea: Hazen was struggling with overwhelming headaches, pain, and nausea, they knew something wasn’t right. After months of trying to find answers, stymied by COVID protocols and misdiagnosis, Hazen finally had a brain scan. Doctors discovered a tumour in Hazen’s brain and immediately went into action. He would have urgent brain surgery, an awake craniotomy, 3 days later. All this while Ave was 3 months pregnant.
Thankfully, the emergency surgery went well and Hazen is recovering, but there's still a long road ahead. Hazen will need to undergo chemo, radiation, and speech and physical therapy. With the two of them balancing Hazen's ongoing care and the new parenting ahead, work, finances, and the general pandemic rebound remain uncertain.
Obviously it’s no one’s dream to have a medical go-fund me, but any chance to make life easier for these two wonderful people is a move I’m going to make. So with that in mind, I'm turning to you for your help and support!
This year has been a challenging one for many, but if you are able we’d appreciate any support you can give to help our friends as they face these new challenges—all while they are away from their support network and in the middle of a pandemic.
Please donate if you're able, or share with your networks! With your help, we can take some of the stress off as Hazen and Ave focus on ongoing recovery and the important months ahead.
