Hey, everyone! My name is Hazel Fields and I’m a 3 year old chocolate lab/staffordshire terrier mix. I love cuddles, my brother, Ace, doing zoomies, but most of all I love my parents (Dad more so). In June of 2020 while doing those zoomies, I tore my back right CCL, and got it looked at. The doc said it might get better, but it hasn’t.
In all seriousness, my name is Evan. I’m a disabled Army vet and my wife and I settled out here in Colorado after I was medically discharged. Not long after, we got Hazel. We have been inseparable since. To say the least (without going into too much detail), Hazel has been an imperative part of my mental health.
We took her back to the vet and the orthopedic vet said that she needs her CCL repaired. The vet said that they can repair it with a procedure where they use a fishing line like material and sew her back up with it acting as a false ligament almost. The doctor said the problem is, she’s only 3 years old and really active, so she runs the risk of tearing that one again, or tearing one of her other ones and then there aren’t many options. This surgery is $1688.
There is a surgery called TPLO that she said we could do. This surgery is where they put a buffer in her joint and correct the positioning. She said that this will fix her and not have to worry about any problems later on, giving her the chance to go back to a normal life. However this surgery costs $3400 and we just don’t have the money for it. I’m a disabled veteran going to school and who is unable to work. My wife works in a spa and her clientele has been effected by COVID in a big way. We’re trying our best to put up more than the $500 we have saved so far, but as you know, things have been really rough for a lot of people this past year.
I’ve never done anything like this, but if you could please donate any amount to help us fix up our little girl, we would be forever grateful.
Thank you all,
Evan, Sharon, Hazel, and Ace ❤️
