November 19 was a normal Saturday. Hazel went to watch her cousin perform in the “Beauty and The Beast” production at before setting off to see her great grandmother in Louisville. Her mom thought she might have an ear infection because her balance was a little off, so she decided to take Hazel to Norton Children’s Hospital to get her checked out. Several tests later, the entire family was shaken to find that Hazel had a brain tumor, medullablastoma specifically. Hazel was rushed to surgery on Monday to have the tumor successfully removed.
On Wednesday November 23, Hazel was accepted into St Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis TN, under the care of Dr Aditi Bagchi.
Hazel and her parents came home briefly before departing for Memphis the following Monday, where they will spend the next 8-12 months. She will receive the best care in the world, but Chemotherapy and Radiation are tough on anyone, much less a two year old.
If you know Hazel, you know she’s an absolute beast. There are few humans on this earth who have her resolve (Try turning off Bluey before she is good and ready and see what happens). So many people have reached out to our family and asked how they can help, so we started this to give people an opportunity to do just that.
To clarify, the goal was set to cover the family’s maximum medical costs in 2022 AND 2023. Once all of the costs of Hazel’s medical care are covered, any remaining balance will be donated to St Jude Children’s Hospital to help other families in need.
