With heavy hearts, we share the passing of my father, Jim “Haystack” Novak—a larger-than-life soul whose music lit up every room and touched countless lives. My father wasn’t just a musician; he was a force of nature, pouring his heart into every note he played, whether on a grand stage or a small-town dive bar. If you knew him, you knew his infectious humor, his sharp sarcasm, and his flair for the dramatic. He lived for the music, and it was in music that he left us, doing what he loved most.

Just before taking the stage with CW & Twenty Hands High in Wyoming, my father’s heart gave out—a swift exit in God’s mercy, letting him go out on his terms, on the road making music with his friends. We’re devastated, but grateful for the moments we had. He stood at my wedding, held his two grandchildren and stayed close with me and my mom.

Now, we’re reaching out to you—his friends, fans, and fellow music lovers—to help us honor Haystack’s legacy. We’re raising funds to bring his ashes home and create a memorial that celebrates the man, the music, and the memories.
