Hayley is finally off to London for PreMed!

We are thrilled that the time has finally come for Hayley to leave for London in just 3 weeks! The past two years have been a mix between a series of unfortunate events and a journey of hard work,sacrifice, dedication, resilience, perseverance, patient, faith, and hope. 

Hayley decided she wanted to become a Pediatric Surgeon after having a terrible painful experience with Appendicitis and spending Christmas and New Years in the hospital during middle school because the only competent Pediatric Surgeon in our area was away on a medical mission with the amazing organization he founded: World Surgical Foundation (https://worldsurgicalfoundation.org/ - Check them out, doing amazing things for kids and families around the world!). 

When he returned, he immediately met with us and performed the surgery without a hitch all while taking the time to talk to Hayley about what is like to be a Pediatric Surgeon (and even pulling out a camera full of surgery pics from his mission trip!). 

It was Dr. Alvear and his expertise, humility, kindness, knowledge, and common sense approach to treatment that set Hayley on her path and goal to follow in his footsteps as a Peds Surgeon. She knew that she had the ability to help other children going through suffering and could help children not just in our country, but around the world. 

She put in the time and got the grades. The classes. The scholarships. And was accepted to top schools including Maine, Seattle, and University of London. UEL was her final choice because of their scholarship money, competitiveness, and the chance to study and learn with other premed students who would be practicing around the world. 

But first we have to actually get her there and get her situated! The final and biggest hurdle, finances. We are happy to report that through blood, sweat, tears, and hours of research, phone calls, and persistence, Hayley has been able to secure additional scholarship money and student loans that will cover most of her tuition and books for the whole Premed program! 

The onboarding costs continue to mount as we rush to get passports, visa, airfare, dorm items and living expenses to hold Hayley so Hayley can get started and her financial aid money can kick in at the end of September/beginning of October. We are cutting it close and we are running short of the upfront money we need now despite our best efforts. 

Thank you to everyone who has asked how they could help and for all the support and faith! We were hesitant about doing a page on gofundme, but there is really no other similar platform and we had a friend let us know that gofundme now has a special section/category just for college expenses, so here we are!
