Fight for Hayden White

Dear Friends,

In the midst of a pandemic everyday life and everyday struggles still go on.  Hayden White, an 8 year old very independent, inquisitive, competitive, boy was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.  For more information on this type of cancer click https://www.cancer.org/cancer/osteosarcoma

Hayden mentioned one morning that his leg hurt, but in the next moment said it was better and went to school without another word.  A few weeks later he mentioned his leg hurting and then said "it must be because I fell off my bike yesterday" and then ran around the neighborhood all day playing without another word.  After a few more days Hayden mentioned his leg hurting again then began to race his little brother around the house.
Out of caution, his parents brought Hayden to the pediatrician.  After many scans, tests, and a biopsy the doctors discovered cancer in the bone of his upper leg.

Hayden will immediately get a port implanted in order to get chemo treatments.  After each chemo treatment Hayden must stay in the hospital until the medicine is out of his system.  Currently, the doctors say this could be anywhere between 3 days to 14 days.  His parents are scrambling to adjust work schedules, talk to experienced parents of survivors to learn how to best prepare, and to think of anything that might make Hayden's stays in the hospital as comfortable as possible.

Hayden will lose all his hair the week of the first chemo treatment which he is not a fan of, but his parents have him looking forward to wearing hats.
Hayden will need 9 chemo treatments, a surgery to remove the bone and replace it with a prosthetic bone, and then 9 more chemo treatments.
While trying to prepare as best as possible for Hayden's fight, his parents are also are still adjusting to virus related reduction in work hours available.

The White family are blessed with many friends who are asking how they can help.   Fundraising right now when the whole of humanity is so very concerned about their own livelihood gave us (Corey and Karen’s friends) significant pause.  Yet, uncertainty is a part of each of our everyday lives and this family has more than their share.  With that in mind we decided doing something feels like the right thing.  For each person who wants to find a way to support Hayden, we hope this provides an avenue for that support.  There are no expectations, for each of us has our own challenges and struggles.  Donations will be used to help the White family fight the financial strains of the months upon months of treatments the doctors recommend.
