Hayden has been my good friend and coworker for many years. She is an incredible educator in the Minneapolis Public Schools and gives her all to her students. In addition to this role, Hayden works at Target and cares for an adult with disabilities in her community. She still finds the time to volunteer with non-profits and help raise awareness for several social justice causes.
Few would know by looking that Hayden has been battling a chronic illness since she was 18 months old - juvenile arthritis. Last summer, her doctor prescribed Remicaide infusions necessary for her continued well-being. United Healthcare is now (one year later!) deeming this medication "not medically necessary" and charging Hayden nearly $4,000 (!!!!!) for this life-changing medication. Hayden has been fighting through appeals and has been denied assistance to help pay for this drug. Despite working three jobs, this is an unbearable cost in our society (in case anyone is wondering why we went on strike this year).
Donations to support this incredible woman, educator, and friend are much appreciated. In addition, please write to your legislature and let them know this is unacceptable. And don't forget to go VOTE!
