Hi! I'm fundraising for my parents Julie and Rob Hay, my brother Robert Hay (9 y.o.), and their dog Milo- who recently lost their home in a severe house fire.
Around 1 AM on Saturday, January 15th, Julie was lying down to sleep when Milo refused to stop barking. So she went out, checked on Milo, and realized a fire had started in the garage. She recognized by the amount of smoke that the fire wasn't something she could handle alone. So Julie quickly decided to get her and Milo out of the house and called the fire department. Rob and Robert were on their way back from a camping trip, and luckily weren't in the house at the time of the fire. After 9 minutes, the fire department arrived and began putting out the flames.
At 4am, the fire was still burning. Thanks to the red cross, and the help of neighbors and friends, everyone had a safe place to sleep.
The fire department and fire investigator are working alongside the police to determine the cause of the fire, but for now, the focus is putting out hotspots.
The house has caught fire three times since the initial fire, and not much can be done until that is under control.
The effects of this fire span the entire house. The roof is completely gone from 90% of the house, and the basement is full of insulation and foam. The police department stated today that it is likely to be a total loss.
The Hays are doing everything they can to handle the situation and greatly appreciate all the support and offers of help. As of right now, the main priority is that everyone is okay. We are starting by making sure the family has all their basic needs met. They have a safe place to stay.
As more information comes available we will update this page, but as of right now they are accepting donations here for the inevitable costs they are incurring due to this tragedy.
Both cars in the garage are totaled. The entirely remodeled home that has improved steadily over the last 3 years is destroyed. The office where Julie works from home as a Realtor is gone. More information about specific items needed will become available as we are informed. There is likely going to be little that is recoverable, especially after the flare-ups.
We sincerely appreciate everyone that has reached out and expressed concern. We are so grateful for our community, friends, and family that have stepped up to help.
There is little information beyond the above, and still a long way to go from here. Anything helps!
Thank you all.
