Hay for Horses: Support Needed Through Australia’s Drought
Donation protected
My sister lives in rural Australia, where she’s quietly built a little haven for animals in need. Over the years, she’s taken in rescue horses, chickens, guinea pigs, and a loyal dog — and sometimes even orphaned lambs — giving them safety, space, and love. This isn’t a sanctuary or a business. Just one person doing what she can to care for animals who had nowhere else to go.
But right now, she’s facing a real crisis.
Parts of Victoria have had fewer than 10 days of rain in the past six months, with less than 100 mm total rainfall in some areas — just a fraction of what’s normally expected. The ground is bone dry, the grass has stopped growing, and there’s nothing left for the animals to graze on.
With no local hay available, the only option is to truck it in from hundreds of miles away. Prices have more than doubled — from around $80 to over $180 per bale.
It will take around 18 bales to feed her horses through the next six months. That’s $3,240 AUD — an impossible ask without help.
I’ve set up this fundraiser to ask for a bit of support. Every dollar raised will go directly toward hay and supplies for the animals. Whether it covers one bale or a handful of carrots, your contribution means the world.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing.
(Note - My sister is near Maryborough but the location name wont change)
