Fight Hard, Breathe Easy for Monique

Our mom, Monique, has worked on the Comfort Care Unit at the hospital, caring for patients and their families for the past 5 1/2 years. Anyone who knows her, knows how much she loves her job. While caring for a patient, she injured her shoulder. When she went to the hospital to have it checked, she mentioned that the pain was radiating to her chest. From there, the doctor ordered a chest and shoulder x-ray. She was told that it was just a strain on her shoulder and needed to follow up with her doctor. Several days later, she received a letter in the mail stating they found an "incidental" finding on her chest x-ray. She then followed up with her doctor, and they ordered a CT scan. The CT scan showed an abnormal nodule positive for Lung Cancer. Our mom went to see a surgeon, who scheduled her for a PET scan and a lung biopsy. The one nodule was scheduled to be removed on July 8th, but when the surgeon went in, she tested the surrounding lymph nodes, in which 6 came back cancerous. In the matter of an hour, she went from Stage 1 to Stage 3 Lung Cancer. Now she will be enduring a strong Chemotherapy every 3 weeks, and then a possible surgery in January.
