Havoc's leg surgery and recovery
Donation protected
Hello friends,
As many of you know, our family started with adopting our kitties, Havoc and Hero. Our family grew in 2021 with the arrival of our human son and will grow again in 4 weeks when our human daughter arrives.
On September 5, our clumsy Havoc fell about 15 feet from a ledge above a drop down staircase to a lower level (we have a split level). After going to the emergency vet where they saw that Havoc's femur was broken in several places and may not be repairable by surgery (meaning amputation), we were sent to Iowa State's animal hospital where Havoc is in the ICU awaiting surgery Thursday. If surgery goes well, he will have 8(!) weeks of recovery and physical therapy. Luckily, he is only 4 years old and has been healthy otherwise. The doctors said that Havoc was purring during his exam despite having a horrible break, he is the sweetest boy.
Okay, let's talk about money. The emergency vet was $1,200 and the intake at ISU was $2,500. His surgery will cost between $3,000-5,000 and he will have many follow up visits. We're looking at $6,700-8,700+. The real kicker is the expense of giving birth (to the female human) next month and the associated costs.
Asking for help feels weird, but after encouragement from many friends who understand our circumstances we decided to do so. We would absolutely not ask for help if we didn't need it.
Thank you for your support, we promise to pay it forward.

PS- we got to visit him with our human son today, he is comfortable on his pain medicine and was happy to have us there to pet him <3
