Havens Hospice - Zara Garrard
On June 8th, I’ll be running the Southend Half Marathon in memory of my wonderful mother-in-law, Zara, and raising funds for Havens Hospices — the charity that supported her and our family through the most difficult days of our lives.
On April 1st, Zara was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of lung cancer. She was ready to fight, but sadly the cancer was too advanced to be treated. Just 17 days later, on April 18th 2025, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughters.
In her final days, Havens Hospices provided exceptional care — not just for Zara, but for all of us. Their compassion, support, and tireless dedication made an unbearable time a little easier, and we’ll always be grateful for the dignity and comfort they gave her.
Zara was deeply loved and is incredibly missed. I’m running this race to honour her memory and to give back to the people who helped her leave this world with peace and kindness.
If you’re able to, please consider donating — every penny will go toward helping other families receive the same care and support we did.
Thank you.
