Haven's Gender Confirmation Treatments
Hi, I'm Haven. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a queer, nonbinary transgender woman from the Seattle area and I'm also a gender blogger and author at beardedgenderqueer.wordpress.com .
Transition is a convoluted and expensive path that I've been on for several years now. The results are painful but very worthwhile for me as I start to experience more and more gender euphoria as I get my areas of dysphoria treated.
I'm approaching some big milestones in my journey in the next year, most notably gender confirmation surgery (bottom surgery) in the form of a vaginoplasty. But because we don't have any transgender surgeons in Western Washington, I have to travel to San Francisco to have it done which means that I need to fund travel and housing for a month in the Bay Area on top of my deductible and other out of pocket medical expenses.
I spent some time doing research and found that I need to save between $6,000-$9,000 for my surgery by August 3, 2020 depending on how comfortable I want to be during recovery.
- $3,500 for housing for 28 days (covered thanks to signal boosting!)
- Money for gas
- $130+ for specific medical supplies for recovery
- $500+ for meals
- $1,500-$2,000 for my deductible and copay
Surgery isn't my only cost of course. So far I've spent over $3,000 on hair removal (with more planned), and I just paid $400 to get my name and gender marker changed on all my legal documents.
As much as I would love to think I could save that much money on my own, I work at a nonprofit doing HIV research and I don't make enough money to put that much in savings on top of my already high medical costs as a disabled person with chronic back and neck pain.
So if you have ever benefited from my writing and how openly I share about my path to self actualization, please consider donating. Every little bit will make a difference in making this life saving surgery a reality.
