Renee is a dear friend, we are not related, despite our shared last name. (Though she does confess a crush on my husband. We are the kind of friends who can laugh at this!)
Renee is a beautiful soul, LOVES animals, especially dogs, is incredibly hard working and generous to a fault.
Renee went to the hospital on Monday because she was having symptoms that were worrisome. She was admitted immediately as a heart patient and given a catheterization. Unfortunately, she had a massive heart attack recently, 7 IN TOTAL, and Renee had not gone to the hospital as she knew she had no health insurance and was worried about incurring medical costs. By the time she reached the hospital and tests were conducted, her heart was only functioning at 39% at only the age of 49. Heart disease is genetic.
She was then scheduled for a QUINTUPLE BYPASS! Yes, you read that correctly, QUINTUPLE BYPASS SURGERY.
The good news is, the surgery went well and she is off life support – Renee is still in the ICU and surrounded by her family and loved ones.
She has not been able to qualify for subsidized health care or Medicaid because her income is just barely above government set standards.
In case you are wondering what quintuple bypass surgery is, as I did:
A quintuple bypass is an open heart surgery done to treat severely blocked arteries that feed the heart.
With NO HEALTH INSURANCE, a quintuple bypass is bound to be an incomprehensible financial burden as well as a huge emotional and psychological drain.
After Renee is released from the hospital, she will not be able to work for 3 months. She will need to heal at home for 1 month and then go into cardiac rehab for 2-3 months.
Renee will be on expensive heart medication for the rest of her life with no insurance.
I hope that you can find it in your heart to donate, and help defray the cost of some of Renee’s medical bills & treatment so she can put all of her energy into healing.
After all, I believe that we all have the right to be healthy and get the care we need to remain so!
Thank you so much for your consideration, generosity and kindness.
