“Have You Touched the Sand?” by Moo at KC Fringe Festival

Hi! We’re Kaitlyn and Troy Gardner—a sister and brother dance duo working under the name Moo—and we’re creating our very first evening-length contemporary dance performance: Have You Touched the Sand?

This piece explores the feeling of grasping something vast and profound—like a truth or realization—and then asking: how do we move forward from that moment? How do we continue after “touching the sand”?

We’re passionate about providing genuine and fulfilling dance opportunities to local Kansas City artists. Contemporary dance is rich and meaningful, but it’s under-supported in our city. Our goal is to change that, starting with this project. We’ve brought together seven incredible local dancers to help us tell this story through shared movement, emotion, and experience.

We’re debuting this work at the Kansas City Fringe Festival, and we want to make sure this performance is not only artistically powerful, but also professional, memorable, and fully realized. To do that, we’ve already partnered with a talented Kansas City photographer to help us promote the show—and we’re continuing to build our creative team.

That’s where you come in.

We’re raising funds to compensate our dancers and collaborators for their time, energy, and artistry. This includes:

• Paying our dancers for rehearsals and performances

• Commissioning a local costume designer to create original costumes

• Working with local videographers and photographers to document the performance—something all of us can use for future opportunities

Every dollar will go directly toward supporting the artists who are pouring their hearts into this work. We believe that investing in dancers, designers, and creators means investing in a thriving, local arts scene—and we’re excited to make that happen, with your help.
