Have a Heart: Help Deidre Fight Cancer
Hi! My name is Brenna and I am fundraising for my dear friend, Deidre Cason. Deidre is an amazing woman who lights up every room she enters with her smile. She is the type of person you could spend hours with laughing, reminiscing and talking to and it still wouldn't be enough time. She is a mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, and is so incredibly supportive and proud of her family. She loves to show off photos and stories about her son. But now, Deidre needs our support.
Despite her being one of the healthiest and most active people I know, Deidre was struggling with physical activity. She went into the emergency room in June of 2021, struggling to breathe. After running x-rays and tests, the doctors determined that she had fluid surrounding her heart. She then had a drain placed, and they were able to drain off approximately 3 liters of fluid.
The doctors then discovered 3 masses on her heart. A biopsy of one of the masses revealed a diagnosis of Synovial Sarcoma. The oncologist called it the "rarest of rare", and she is 1 of 20 people with that diagnosis. The team of doctors in Saint Louis are recommending she go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX for a treatment plan. Right now, the frustrating thing is that the aggression of the treatment plan has to take into consideration that the tumors are on the heart. But, since the cancer is on her heart, the doctors don't want to waste any time starting treatment.
The funds raised from this campaign will go directly to Deidre and her family in order to support her fight against this rare form of cancer. The funds will go towards incurred medical bills resulting from her previous hospital stay, as well as covering her out of network deductible so she can be treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center. It will also be used for any travel expenses her, her mother, and her son may incur during her stay in Houston, Texas.
