Have a heart for Emmy!

On Friday Jan 19, Emmy was taken in for a routine 1 year well child check. A heart murmur was found on assessment and dr decided to check it out with an echo. On Friday Jan 26, the echo in Salina showed Emmy had a very high heart rate which caused some concern. Wesley had an open bed for Emmy to be observed over night on a heart monitor (no big concerns at this time). Upon arriving to Wesley, Emmy had gone in and out of SVT (supraventricular tachycardia) for the first 20 minutes of being there. Her heart rate would jump to 230’s and then go back to 150’s. This was concerning. After getting an IV, drawing labs, EKG and repeat echo, her heart was found to be very sick. Her troponin was almost 500 and her ejection fraction was 50%. Emmy was moved to PICU and started on propranolol to try and control her heart rate. Sunday Jan 28, she had a long run of SVT in the morning. A repeat echo on Monday Jan 29 showed her ejection fraction was getting worse and she was starting to have mitral valve regurgitation. The propranolol was not doing enough and the cardiologist in wichita suggested Emmy get transferred to children’s mercy so they can run more tests. Emmy got her first helicopter ride on Monday and did great! A repeat echo at children’s showed her ejection fraction getting even worse and she was moved to cardiac ICU. The docs are running more lab tests, more EKGs and repeat Echos to figure out what is causing this. Emmy is in great hands at CMH. Nicole and Zack are both in KC with her along with multiple family members. Older sister, Paislee, is getting spoiled by all of the grandmas.
