Haugan Elementary Clothes & School Supplies Drive

I sat down with a teacher from Haugan Elementary, a Chicago Public School  in Chicago and we started talking about her school and classroom.  She shared stories with me how so many students lack things that are the "norm" for school kids to have: winter coats, boots, clothes, sneakers, school supplies, etc.  The stories she shared broke my heart.  Their parents do the best they can.  Per the CPS website stats, 95.6% of the 907 children at Haugan Elementary are low income students. 

I was put in touch with the school counselor who provided me with a list of needs: "navy blue or black chino pants and a white polo shirts long or short sleeve. Black and navy blue sweaters are always in high demand by the students. We can take all sizes because we are a school Kindergarten through 7th grade.  School supplies are always helpful, notebooks, pencils, markers, notebook paper, glue sticks, headphones and thumb drives are TWO big items we are always low on. We are grateful for anything we get!" 

With that said, I'm starting this drive and overseeing all purchases.  I couldn't just walk away from what I heard and not be moved to do something.  If you want to buy online, please send packages to the school, to the school counselor's attention: Samantha Uribe c/o Haugan Elementary 4540 N Hamlin Ave, Chicago, IL 60625.
