Health workers in Indonesia - Share & Support

Donation protected

USC nurses are donating and raising funds to support our colleagues working at the COVID frontline in Indonesia. We are partnering with Karima Healthcare to purchase supplies needed for hard working volunteers and healthcare workers to continue their work in communities hit hard by COVID-19. Karima Healthcare is a small NGO that delivers free health services in people's homes, villages and schools in rural Java. As students, many nurses from University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) did a placement with Karima in Indonesia, and experienced the great work that they do.

GoFundMe donations will be collected through August 2021, and distributed between the following 3 programs:

1. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and nutrition for health workers

Health workers at Dr. Sarjito Hospital in Yogyakarta are working overtime to keep up with the influx of critically ill covid patients. All of the 533 beds for covid patients have been full since the current wave of infections. Despite being vaccinated, health workers are also becoming infected due to the continuous exposure to the new covid variants. Funds will be used to distribute food, vitamins, and quality PPE for health workers to maintain their stamina and wellbeing.

2. Shelter for people self-isolating

If a person has covid, their whole family is at high risk of infection, as most homes in Yogyakarta do not support self-isolation. Syantikara provides free accommodation, meals and health checks for people with covid who do not have financial capacity or a place to self-isolate. The repurposed student dormitory has 164 beds and 108 community and health worker volunteers. Donations to this service will help purchase supplies for residents and volunteers.

3. PPE for free ambulance volunteers

Volunteers from ambulance providers in Yogyakarta are providing free funeral services for covid victims, this includes transporting the body and burial. With an increasing number of deaths, volunteers are delivering as many as 30 bodies in one day using the same PPE. Donations will be used for PPE for volunteers and fuel for ambulances.
