Harvey's dental surgery
Donation protected
Last week I found an abscess on Harvey's jaw, which in terms of bunny problems is not deadly but he's going to need a CT scan under sedation and then almost certainly dental surgery as the problem lies deep in his teeth's roots. He's super young to have this issue so it's all-round crappy for both of us.
So I'm looking at $650 for the CT scan then up to $2000 for surgery, which is basically my entire 'savings'. I didn't really want to do this, but people have asked how they could help, and everyone who has spent time with Harvs knows what a special little guy he is. Right now he's on penicillin injections once a week and pain meds, which is not cheap either but basically just maintenance.
And I know it's a shitty time for everyone really, so definitely don't feel obliged to sling me cash! I've applied for a million jobs it seems so maybe this week will be a bit better. Harvey meanwhile is his usual hungry, happy self, waking me up at 5am for breakfast (it was 7am two weeks ago but he's been gradually getting earlier) and running laps around my legs every time he hasn't seen my feet for a while.
Also, pet insurance isn't on offer for rabbits, which sucks as some of their vet care is crazy expensive. Teeth issues are pretty common because of the way they continually grow, how deep their roots are and all manner of hereditary problems caused by intensive breeding and poor diet.
Aside: the vet he is seeing at the Rabbit Doctors in Collingwood has six rescues that sleep in her bed with her and her husband. And y'all think I am a crazy bunny lady...
(On the very small chance I actually meet this target, I'd donate any extra $ to the rabbit rescues in Victoria who have done it really tough during the pandemic lockdowns and travel restrictions/no volunteers.)
Harvey says thank you, friends! He's available for pats, snacks, headbutting legs and peeing on your bed, if you're so inclined.
