Hurricane Harvey - Labor of LOVE
Donation protected
This Labor Day, I kicked off our Labor of Love Campaign as many have asked how can they help. I believe in the Power of One, and hoping you can donate whatever amount then pass this request to your friends.
Background: We are a family of 4 who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. We relocated from Chicago to Katy, TX in 2007 in pursuit of a quality educational system for our children. Thankfully my husand and I still work for our home base companies and are dedicated to our profession. We elapsed our flood insurance policy which expired May 31, 2017.
On 8/27, we left our home as our neighborhood streets began to flood. The main streets were completely flooded and we managed to have friends with a BIG truck who took a chance and rescued us by cutting thru two neighborhoods from a mainstreet that was fine. Our community has 750 homes and all of them were affected.
Originally wanted to assess the damages to come up with an estimated financial need, but at this time we are all under a mandatory evacuation. It's been over 7 days that our items have been under water, therefore, I am considering majority of valuable items as a loss. 7 days of water in a home in a hot climate above 90 degrees is the perfect environment for mold and mildew.
The rebuilding of our home, will be a representation of community, simply because we are the Church and this is the time we need to rely on one another. Living there will represent that and ready to rebuild and start over.
So please donate what you can upon reading this petition, every dollar counts.
Blessed to have community friends who have sheltered us, clothed us, and many who have prayed for and with us.
The funds raised will be used to replace two transportation vehicle losses, two A/C units, restoration of our living space, main bedroom and bathroom, kitchen appliances, garage walls and ceiling, kitchen cabinets and island table, flooring materials, stair case carpeting, drywall, insulation, base boards, entrance/exit doors and surrounding wood trim, garage ceiling.
My prayer is that we will exceed our goal as I truly can't estimate what the real cost will be. We are at a stage in our lives where we just don't want to incur any loan debt, therefore, we are opening our hearts to receiving as this critical time of need.
We commit as a family to continue to serve our communities throughout our lifetime as that foundation of support is where we reached out to for help and they were there for us. Praise God! Assuming this campaign exceeds the goal and we've recovered our losses and created a stabilized home, we will disburse and share with our fellow neightbors so they get back on their feet. We have a good base with 15 families in the subdivison from our age group to retired seniors, so we have plenty of people to help.
God Bless Us ALL in this day and age! Everyday is miracle and thankful we are able to rise and move. Enjoy your Labor Day, you deserve it!
We LOVE you!
