Help give Harvey sight back!
Donation protected
Harvey is a 5 year old miniature schnauzer. I adopted Harvey from a friend when he was about 6 months old and he has been the light of my life ever since that day. A few weeks after bringing him into my home, he was attacked by a stray dog in the woods behind our house. He suffered numerous puncture wounds but fought back to full health. 2 years later, He also experienced poisoning from an unknown substance but was able to battle back from near death on that occasion as well.
Needless to say, he is a fighter and he is my best friend. Through all of my hardships and struggles over the last few years, Harvey has been my rock. His cuddles have brought me back from the depths of despair, especially with some severe personal hardships I've been dealing with this holiday season. In a way, I owe my life to him and will use every avenue possible if I can give him the same dedication he has shown me. You may think this all ridiculous because he is "only a dog", but the person saying that has never met him or seen the 2 of us together. I've never had the privilege of raising kids but my dogs get the same effort and love I imagine I'd give "real" children.
At the age of 3, He began developing a juvenile cataract in his left eye which is now fully matured. He was still able to enjoy a normal life with just the one functioning eye and we held hope that the other eye would stay strong and healthy. Unfortunately, Harvey has now developed a cataract in his right eye, leaving him totally blind. I just met with the opthamologist vet, Dr. Mario Hodgson and he agrees that Harvey can regain full sight in both eyes with cataract surgery. Unfortunately, dogs health insurance differed from humans and doesn't cover this type of surgery. The cost for the procedure is $3,800, which covers everything from the surgery thru post-op checkups and rehabilitation. I hate to even ask for assistance to make this surgery possible but I am out of options and personal funds.
For those that know me, they know how unbelievably special my young Harvard is to me. The procedure will correct both lenses and he will have total sight again. And for those that have had the pleasure of knowing Harvey, you know that it's worth it for him to be able to see this amazing world in which we live. Just over the past week since his eyesight has totally gone, his spirit and demeanor have suffered tremendously. Find a little love in your heart and a few extra bucks laying around and let's give a beautiful animal a normal lifestyle. He is scheduled for surgery on December 9th but we are extending the donation time through the end of the year just to give it as much time as possible. Even if you can't donate, thank you for taking the time to leo arn about my little buddy.
