Hurricane Harvey left my family's home of 28 years in total destruction. Flood waters remained in their home for 10 days, threatening erosion and disintegration to the home's foundation.
Flood waters quickly elevated to 4 feet inside their home on Saturday August 26th, and my parents (Naeem and Naseem Ravat), my two brothers (Tahir and Yusuf), and their wives (Sherry and Marian) and young children (Sarah and Kasim) were forced to evacuate by boat - carrying only their most essential needs in trash bags.
By Wednesday, August 30th, while much of the city saw the floodwaters recede, my family's home in West Houston (The PINES in Memorial area) remained flooded at 4-5 feet, as the Barker and Addicks reservoirs release waters daily.
For 10 days (until Sept 5) their homes and cars remained underwater, with mold and diseases quickly spreading as the water sat.
My family has moved to 4 different homes, their trash bags full of belongings trailing behind, struggling to find stability and normalcy in this disaster.
Please donate to help them in this very trying time. Anything you give will be appreciated to help them start repairing and rebuilding their home, buying furniture, and getting their home back together.
**We have a generous donor wishing to match $50,000 once we make it to that mark, inshallah.**
My name is Safiya Ravat, I am from Houston, Texas and I am raising funds on behalf of my family (parents, two brothers and their wives and children). My family will be given direct access to withdraw these funds as they please.
