It has always been a dream of mine to compete in the U.S. Festival of Champions at Lamplight Equestrian Center. I've been invited several times... once before with Harvey and once with Gatsby, but I've always made an excuse for why I could not go: "It's too expensive, I'm not good enough, the cost to benefit ratio just isn't right."
This year, and ironically in the middle of a pandemic, Harvey is ranked 6th nationally for the Developing Prix St. George Championships. Competing at these Championships would be a huge opportunity for me and for Harvey. Not only would we get to watch other top riders and trainers but we would also have access to the US team coaches for lessons!
Harvey is an incredible horse. He is the best horse that I have ever had to ride and train. He's amazingly athletic and sensitive and I want him to have all the opportunities and successes that he deserves.
Unfortunately, I do not have a sponsor and the cost of getting to a show that is 2,000 miles away is insane! The flight is $4970 each way, the entry fee is about $1,500, RV rental is $1,000 and I will also have car rental, food, and transport to and from the airport. The total cost of the show will be well over $12,000.
Dressage is an amazing sport but the cost of it can be limiting. It feels a bit awkward to ask for support but I'm not sure I can afford to get there without some help. Since I own Harvey myself, I don't have owners to help pay these expenses as many of the other competitors do. I truly appreciate your contributions to this cause as well as the encouragement and support. I am so grateful to all of you and for this opportunity and I promise to keep you all up to date with videos and updates on our journey!
