Hi This is Sara Banman, Sister to Peter Klassen. My brother suffered a massive stroke 10 months ago that nearly killed him and left him legally blind .
We are grateful for the help he received while at foothills hospital in Calgary, however the cause of the stroke was never diagnosed which left us with many unanswered questions.
In May Peter & Annie went to Mexico to get a second opinion, Peter saw the neurologist in Chihuahua City The Doctor ordered a complete head scan right away, The Doctor soon informed Peter that he had had a blood clot that went into his brain and then ruptured an artery in the middle of his brain, he also found two spots of previous injuries which showed that he had two Mini strokes that they were not aware of, the Doctor said before I start treating the head, I have to diagnose the cause of these blood clots, so he ordered a heart test which was performed by a very high ranking cardiologist, he told the family that Peter has a heart defect, A small hole in his heart which is the cause of these blood clots and the stroke, he said he's at a very high risk to have another stroke! this defect needs to be corrected as soon as possible and with that taken care of and another treatment the Doctors expect his vision to come back quite a bit, well that was good news! There where some hard decisions that needed to be made, Peter needs surgery! since the doctors in Canada hadn't even found the cause of what happened originally, the hope of them doing the surgery in Canada wasn't very good, so just before they left Mexico, they decided to go to Juarez and see another specialist to get a second opinion just to be sure this is actually what is going on, The Doctor there was even more concerned , he said Peter has a 70% risk of another stroke which would most likely kill him or leave him paralyzed he started treating Peter right away to prevent another blood clot, but he said he needs surgery as soon as possible! he cannot be on a waiting list for six months, The Doctor said with the treatment that he's doing for his head he expects Peter’s vision could come back up to 80%.
With prayerfully considering this and the support of family and friends, We feel that God is leading us in doing the surgery in Mexico. With all that said also realizing that the cost of medical treatment is costly,We Appreciate all your prayers and may God Bless you in return.
