Harrison's A.T. Thru-Hike
Donation protected
Hi! I’m Harrison, but on trail I’m Bedhead. As most of you probably know, I’m currently attempting the Appalachian Trail, a roughly 2200-mile-long footpath that follows the mountains from Georgia to Maine. I recently passed the 1000-mile mark and have had the time of my life. The trail has shown me many new adventures and introduced me to new people, skills, and challenges. Even though it's the most mentally and physically taxing thing I’ve ever done, I don’t believe I would be happy anywhere else right now. Unfortunately, the trail has proven to be much more expensive to hike than I anticipated, and I would like to ask for your help funding the rest of it. Anything you can spare helps me immensely!
These funds will go to food resupply, gear replacement, and occasional stay in a hostel and shuttle ride:
Food resupplies can be very expensive, and the physical strain of the hike means I have developed an enormous appetite and need lots of calories. With limited locations and options within my reach to refill my provisions, sometimes I have to spend a lot of money to supply the next few days.
Gear (particularly shoes) wears out and breaks, and certain gear pieces must be swapped out for others. Shoes have to be replaced every 400 miles or so and are pretty expensive (and important.) Other gear can also end up breaking or not working out, and I have already spent a lot of my budget on gear and shoe replacements.
Rides into town are sometimes required. Otherwise, there's no way to get food for the next leg of the trail. Most shuttle drivers are kind people, but the rides can be expensive. Options are limited because the choices are often “walk on the road all day or night” or “pay anywhere from 20-100 bucks for a one-way trip."
Hostel stays are a vital way to stay in touch with my friends and family, and let my body recover after so much strain. After sleeping in the woods for a week or two, a night in a bed with a hot shower and fresh laundry does wonders for morale.
