Troy is now 5 months out from his heart transplant. ❤️ It’s been a long journey. We thank God everyday for getting us to this point. After the stents were put in his heart continued to fail. They tried the strongest meds to keep his heart pumping but he wasn’t doing well and he was readmitted to the hospital. They put a balloon pump in but his cardiologist and team decided if he was going to survive he needed a heart transplant and fast! 2 days later we got the call that they had a heart...and here we are!
On November 30 my husband suffered a massive heart attack. After 2 long weeks in ICU where he had major heart surgery with 3 stents put in, he is home. He will be wearing a life vest which is a defibrillator vest that will shock his heart if he goes into cardiac arrest. His heart is currently in heart failure because it is operating at 31%. We are beyond grateful that he has made it home to us and is alive! But now we are faced with the hard part of recovery and with that comes time off from work for the both of us as I need to be his caregiver and he is uncertain as to when he will be able to return to work. He will begin cardiac rehabilitation soon and is on a restricted diet, limited activity because even using the restroom right now raises his heart rate quite a bit. His blood pressure is low and they want to see it get higher. He will be taking several medications for the rest of his life and is taking others for now until the doctors are certain his heart will be able to sustain on its own without them. Troy has filed for disability which will only pay up to 60% of his salary. I have had to leave my part time job as a preschool teacher and will currently be relying on my photography business to generate some income. We are unsure as to how soon the SDI checks will be coming as it is already a slow process coupled with the fact that it is the holidays and a lot of offices are closed...so everything is happening very slowly. We have already been living paycheck to paycheck but now we are faced with how to pay for our mortgage, bills, groceries, gas, our sons monthly meds for his epilepsy on top of Troy's medical expenses, his monthly medications and continued medical appointments, rehab and care. Our insurance only covers a portion of the costs. I hate to have to even post this and ask for help...this is the hardest thing to have to do. I am only now doing it because I want to see my husband rest, recover and relax. I don't want him worrying anymore than he already is about how this is affecting his family. He has worked hard his entire life to care for us and never asks for anything! He is my whole world and such a wonderful Daddy to our 3 amazing kids! I thank you all for the love, support and continued prayers and thank you for any help you are able to give us at this time. Life can change in a blink...no one is ever prepared for something like this to happen to their family. Thank you all and God bless you!!!!
